What is the Armenian Dialogue Circle?
The Armenian Dialogue Circle is a space for our community to delve into topics central to our shared human experience. Our moderated dialogues are conducted with open minds, civility, and intellectual rigor.
The dialogues serve as a way to deepen our thinking about a variety of subjects while learning to pay attention to the thread of the conversation. There is no pressure to reach a conclusion.
How does it work?
Our bi-monthly meetings last for 2 hours. At the beginning, participants are invited to propose topics from which one is voted.
Participants are encouraged to express their views openly and may be invited by the moderator to expand on their thoughts.
What do we talk about?
Topics are broad and philosophical in nature rather than analytical and technical. They relate to various aspects of human life and will, at times, concern Armenian affairs.
Here is a list of topics that have aleady been discussed:
Is there any meaning to the crises that the world is facing today?
Can we ever fully be authentic?
What is the purpose of boredom?
What is art?
Can the Armenian community survive without community centers?
What is the purpose of shame?
What is peace?
What role should nongovernmental organizations play in the provision of public services?
Is endogamy, i.e. marriage within the same group, justified in today's globalized world?
What is beauty?
Do mixed marriages lead to the erosion of the Armenian community?
Is ignorance bliss?
Does destiny exist and are our lives bound by it?
When in Rome, should we do as the Romans?
Does free will exist?
